Torrance has the largest population in the South Bay with 147,000 residents and it includes four zip codes. The Torrance city motto is "A Balanced City!,” referring to residential, commercial, and industrial development. While it embodies 21st century cultural and technological progress, Torrance somehow maintains much of the Rockwellian ambience it has had since incorporating in 1921. County. A substantial number of Torrance homes built in the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s are still inhabited by the original owners or their children. Torrance residents seem intent upon conserving some select portions of what the post-war era offered.
